I provide counseling/psychotherapy for clients (preschool through adult) utilizing cognitive/behavioral, interpersonal, humanistic, and psychodynamic techniques, tailored to meet clients’ individual and unique needs. I do so with compassion, care, understanding, and acceptance. My goal is to draw upon my clients’ strengths and foster new coping skills. I have extensive training and experience with preschoolers and young children. I also provide counseling/psychotherapy with adults addressing issues related to grief and loss, coping with illness, family conflict, parenting issues, women's issues, family/marital issues, and support through crisis and change.
I do not participate on any insurance panels. At the end of the session, I provide clients with a bill that clients can submit to insurance companies for reimbursement for out-of-network benefits. Clients are advised to check their out-of-network benefits prior to initiating psychotherapy.
I provide consultation services to parents regarding a variety of parenting issues. Parents and children are faced with increasing challenges regarding school, extracurricular activities and sports, friendships, and social media. I assist parents with gaining increased knowledge regarding child development, positive discipline, social and emotional development, and meeting children’s individual needs. I provide parents with education, guidance, feedback, and support. I also guide parents with methods of deepening the parent-child bond. I provide parents with relevant handouts, articles, and resources.
This is time-limited, and we typically meet for two to three sessions. If you would like to continue with ongoing support, this can be provided through my service of individual psychotherapy, or I can refer you to a local psychotherapist.
Walk and Talk
People are extremely busy these days, and sometimes it is difficult to find time to come into the office. Others simply would prefer an alternative to an office setting. If you are someone who is always “on the go” and/or would like a way of fitting in both a walk and a counseling/coaching session, a “Walk and Talk” may be for you. We would walk on a local trail in nature while addressing your issue, concern, or problem.
Walks in nature have been associated with significantly lower depression, less perceived stress, and enhanced overall mental health and well-being. Traditional psychotherapy is not for everyone.
Here are some benefits of taking your session outdoors:
- Exercise boosts serotonin and elevates mood
- Helps you fit exercise into your day
- Talking while exercising helps some people open up
- Some find it easier to talk while looking forward and walking, rather than sitting and looking at therapist
- It can spur creativity
- It can help you become "unstuck" regarding a particularly difficult issue
- You can utilize the healing power of nature
- It can provide you with a sense of feeling alive
